Distance: approx. 287 km (178 mi)
You could spend weeks exploring all the Canadian
Rockies have to offer. Here’s a unique way to spend two
or three days: take the early train west from Edmonton
to Jasper (about 5.5 hours) and work your way south to
Lake Louise and Banff.
Day 1 – Jasper
• When you arrive, rent a vehicle and a GyPSy guide
(your personal electronic tour guide) or connect
with Jasper Motorcycle Tours and see the sights
from a sidecar.
• Hop the Jasper Tramway, the longest and highest
guided aerial tramway in Canada. What a view!
• Enjoy a tour of the Maligne Valley. Highlights
include Maligne Canyon, Medicine Lake and
Maligne Lake. The 90-minute boat cruise past
Spirit Island is a must.
• About an hour from town, have a relaxing soak at
Miette Hot Springs, the hottest mineral waters in
the Rockies.
• Choose an eclectic eatery for dinner, then head to
Pyramid Island for stargazing in the world’s largest
Dark Sky Preserve.
• Overnight at a famous lodge, inn, B&B or one of
several campgrounds.
