David Thompson Hwy 11<br />

This route runs from Stettler through Red Deer, Rocky<br />

Mountain House, and Nordegg, to Saskatchewan<br />

River Crossing, where it connects with the famed<br />

Icefields Parkway (Hwy 93) in Banff National Park.<br />

One of the most scenic routes in the province, it slices<br />

through wilderness areas with wild rivers, crystal lakes<br />

and waterfalls. Fish, paddle, swim, camp. Follow in<br />

the footsteps of the man who spent most of his life<br />

exploring and mapping northwestern North America.<br />

Bodo Archaeological Site – Provost<br />

Paw the ground for treasures on a dig at the Bodo<br />

Archaeological Site near Provost, where a professional<br />

archaeologist teaches you the basics of excavation<br />

and how to identify artifacts. You can help excavate a<br />

300 – 500 year-old bison bone bed at the Bodo Bison<br />

Skulls Site. Learn about the history of <strong>Alberta</strong> and the<br />

First Nations, as well as the science of archaeology.<br />

You can even rent a tipi.<br />

Kalyna Country Ecomuseum<br />

From Edmonton east to the Saskatchewan border is<br />

known as Kalyna Country, 20,000 sq km (7,722 sq mi)<br />

of living ecomuseum. Experience historical and natural<br />

attractions in their original settings. Explore early prairie<br />

life at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village. Follow the<br />

58 km (36 mi) Victoria Trail along the banks of the North<br />

Saskatchewan to the Victoria Settlement Provincial<br />

Historic Site near Smoky Lake.
