Day 3<br />
• Take Hwy 43 north, jog right onto Hwy 2<br />
north and to historic Dunvegan, 89 km<br />
(55 mi). Wander through the restored fort<br />
and mission buildings.<br />
• Continue north on Hwy 2 to Peace River,<br />
109 km (68 mi). Head to Grouard Hill,<br />
overlooking the confluence of three rivers,<br />
and learn the story of Twelve Foot Davis.<br />
Fishing is heavenly. Enjoy the northern skies<br />
at one of the many campgrounds.<br />
Day 4<br />
• Take Hwy 2 south 69 km (43 mi) and jog<br />
west on Hwy 49 to Falher, the “Honey<br />
Capital of Canada”, with 60,000 beehives in<br />
the area! A honey bee statue towers over<br />
the town.<br />
• Returning to Hwy 2, head southeast 70 km<br />
(43 mi) to High Prairie. Bring the binoculars<br />
to nearby Winagami Lake Provincial<br />
Park – extraordinary bird watching!<br />
• Continue east 117 km (73 mi) to the town<br />
of Slave Lake, on the eastern shore of<br />
Lesser Slave Lake. Set up camp – you’ll<br />
want to stay awhile.<br />
Day 5<br />
• Explore Lesser Slave Lake Provincial<br />
Park, including ancient beach ridges and<br />
shifting sand dunes. Visit the Boreal Centre<br />
for Bird Conservation. Spend the afternoon<br />
swimming and boating or just siesta on the<br />
beautiful beach.<br />
• Back on Hwy 2 south, head to Athabasca,<br />
135 km (84 mi). Walk the historic<br />
Athabasca Landing Trail. Set up camp at<br />
Long Lake Provincial Park.<br />

Day 6<br />
• Head east on Hwy 55 and follow the signs<br />
to Lac La Biche, 96 km (60 mi). Put the<br />
kayaks in the water one more time at<br />
Lakeland Provincial Park and paddle<br />
<strong>Alberta</strong>’s only backcountry canoe circuit. Set<br />
up camp at Pinehurst Lake or get a spot<br />
in nearby Sir Winston Churchill Provincial<br />
Park and camp on an island overnight.<br />
Day 7<br />
• Head south on Hwy 36, then southwest on<br />
Hwy 28 back to Edmonton, 213 km (132 mi).<br />
