age 40 yrs., d/o Joseph T. Strickler died Aug 1899 at Luray, Va. Four children. Buried in the old<br />

burial ground on the Robert G. Mauck farm in the Fletcher's Chapel neighborhood.<br />

age 36 yrs. died last Monday from a train wreck. s/o W. B. Menefee. Little daughter. Brothers -<br />

Wm. A. Menefee & G. B. Menefee. Buried family burial ground at Compton, Page, Va.<br />

The ‘shifting train that left Luray last Monday, 25 Jun 1906, about 1 o'clock disastrously wrecked<br />

a short distance below Limeton an hour or so later. Engineer D. B. Menefee & Fireman John<br />

Milton were instantly killed. The train was running backward from Luray to Riverton and<br />

when in a sharp curve below Limeton the tender jumped the track by which the engineer &<br />

fireman were killed. Mr. Menefee was horribly mangled & Mr. Milton's head was crushed.<br />

The bodies of both were brought to Luray on Monday night where they were prepared for<br />

burial by undertaker Bradley. Mr. Menefee was a son of Mr. W. B. Menefee, of Compton this<br />

county & had been in the railroad service for a number of years. He was buried in the family<br />

burial ground at his old home on Wednesday. He leaves besides father & mother, a little<br />

daughter, one sister, Mrs. Ed. Shenk of Baltimore & 2 brothers, Wm. A. & G. B. Menefee<br />

both employees of the railway. He was about 36 years old. His funeral was conducted by<br />

Revs. Walter & Eye. Mr. Milton lived near Shenandoah & was also buried the same day. He<br />

was about 40 years old & was but recently married.<br />
