From 'The Daily News Record, Harrisonburg, Va.' 07 November 1997 - Page Co. Man Dies in
Farm Accident. A Page County poultry farmer died Wednesday afternoon when his shirt was
caught in a wood chipper & around his neck, a rescue official said. Donald Carl Lowry, 43,
Stanley, had been freed from the chipper when crews from the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department
& Stanley Volunteer Rescue Squad arrived at the farm near Dam Acres
Campground, said Stanley Fire Chief Terry Pettit. Pettit said family members had begun CPR
& rescue workers continued resuscitation efforts at the scene & then en route to Page Memorial
Hospital where Lowry was declared dead. Officials believe Lowry's shirt got caught in
the shaft of the wood chipper while he was working at the farm.
