The f<strong>in</strong>al <strong>in</strong>stallations of<br />
<strong>the</strong> nearly a quarter of a million<br />
lights <strong>and</strong> over 70 trees are up<br />
<strong>and</strong> decorated as part of Historic<br />
Jordan Sp<strong>r<strong>in</strong>gs</strong>’ Charity Christmas<br />
Events <strong>and</strong> Tours. This year’s<br />
<strong>the</strong>me is “Christmas <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Park”<br />
<strong>and</strong> promises to be <strong>the</strong> most enchant<strong>in</strong>g<br />
display yet <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> 37 years<br />
that Jordan Sp<strong>r<strong>in</strong>gs</strong>’ owners Greig<br />
Aitken <strong>and</strong> Tonie Wallace-Aitken<br />
have been fund<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> displays.<br />
“Each year, <strong>the</strong> rooms’ décor<br />
changes <strong>and</strong> we develop new<br />
<strong>the</strong>mes as well as br<strong>in</strong>g back <strong>the</strong><br />
most popular favorites of yesteryear,”<br />
says Executive Director Colt<br />
Nutter. This year, <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> foyer<br />
features <strong>the</strong> Jordan Sp<strong>r<strong>in</strong>gs</strong> signature<br />
life-size horse <strong>and</strong> sleigh,<br />
showcas<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> “Central Park”<br />
feel. The ,500 square foot Gr<strong>and</strong><br />
Ballroom is completely draped <strong>in</strong><br />
over 4,000 square feet of sat<strong>in</strong> fabric<br />
as a backdrop for <strong>the</strong> Crystal<br />
Forest , a guest favorite that was<br />
<strong>in</strong>troduced three years ago on a<br />
much smaller scale. “This will be<br />
<strong>the</strong> biggest Crystal Forest yet, featur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
over 1,000 dangl<strong>in</strong>g crystals<br />
<strong>and</strong> ‘snow’ lights,” says Nutter.<br />
Each event is designated to a local<br />
charity, <strong>and</strong> all tour proceeds<br />
will go to <strong>the</strong>m. This year, Wallace-Aitken<br />
plans to focus on <strong>the</strong><br />
families of our service men <strong>and</strong><br />
women like <strong>the</strong> Children of Mar<strong>in</strong>es<br />
as well as o<strong>the</strong>rs. Guests are<br />
asked to br<strong>in</strong>g new, unwrapped<br />
toys <strong>and</strong> non-perishable food<br />
items that will go to local families<br />

Guests are also <strong>in</strong>vited to vote<br />
on <strong>the</strong>ir favorite room. The cost<br />
is $5 per vote <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> w<strong>in</strong>ners-<br />
those that voted on <strong>the</strong> w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g<br />
room- will be <strong>in</strong>vited back to Jordan<br />
Sp<strong>r<strong>in</strong>gs</strong> <strong>in</strong> 013 for a special<br />
“w<strong>in</strong>ners event.”<br />
Last year, over 1,000 visitors<br />
came to see <strong>the</strong> decorations at<br />
Historic Jordan Sp<strong>r<strong>in</strong>gs</strong>. S<strong>in</strong>ce its<br />
<strong>in</strong>ception, <strong>the</strong> charity tours have<br />
generated nearly $100,000 <strong>in</strong> food,<br />
toy, <strong>and</strong> monetary donations. The<br />

Ruth Farrall<br />
Ruth Farrall, 60, passed away<br />
peacefully on Thursday, November<br />
, 01 <strong>in</strong> her hometown of<br />
Richmond. A talented artist herself,<br />
Ruth spent years teach<strong>in</strong>g<br />
art at <strong>the</strong> Charterhouse School,<br />
an affiliate of UMFS, where she<br />
enriched <strong>the</strong> lives of countless<br />
children through her selfless<br />
dedication. She was preceded<br />
<strong>in</strong> death by her fa<strong>the</strong>r, Richard<br />
Farrall. She is survived by her<br />
mo<strong>the</strong>r, Joan Farrall; her sisters,<br />
L<strong>in</strong>da Farrall Kolb <strong>and</strong> Laura<br />
Farrall; bro<strong>the</strong>r-<strong>in</strong>-law, Dennis<br />
Kolb; nieces, Meghan Parrish<br />
<strong>and</strong> Kimberly Dascher; nephew,<br />
Ian Weager; gr<strong>and</strong>niece, Alexia<br />
Parrish; <strong>and</strong> gr<strong>and</strong>nephew, Tre<br />
Parrish; her two cats, Caesar<br />
<strong>and</strong> Maurice; <strong>and</strong> many lov<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
