Biographies<br />

Martin Best Singer, musician and actor has<br />

recreated the art of the minstrel and troubadour,<br />

performing, devising and directing<br />

magical programmes in live performance<br />

and on television and radio all over the world.<br />

He is renowned for his work on the medieval<br />

poet-singers of Provence. He has created many<br />

words-and-music programmes for the Royal<br />

Shakespeare Company and the Apollo Society<br />

and has received many awards including the Gramophone Magazine<br />

Critic’s Choice and the International Edison Award. He is a Fellow of<br />

the Royal Society of <strong>Art</strong>s.<br />

Lucie Skeaping Musician and broadcaster<br />

presents BBC Radio 3’s long-running series The<br />

Early Music Show. She is Director of The Burning<br />

Bush (traditional Jewish music) and The City<br />

Waites (early English popular music). Her<br />

publications include Broadside Ballads (Faber<br />

Music, Winner Best Classical Music Book Award<br />

2006) and Let’s Make Tudor Music, (Stainer and<br />

Bell, TES award).<br />

Elvis McGonagall Compere & Poet was the 2006 World Poetry Slam<br />

Champion and compere of the Blue Suede<br />

Sporran Club. He is one of the poets who<br />

appears on BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live to<br />

delight the listeners. His poems make you laugh<br />

but there’s no mistaking their righteous anger,<br />

directed with unerring accuracy at a motley<br />

crowd of politicians and other important<br />

people. A McGonagall slam resonates with<br />

vigour and drags poetry off its pedestal to the<br />

pleasure and entertainment of all.<br />

Dr George Rawson Author<br />

is an art historian based in Glasgow who has<br />

written and curated exhibitions on the work of<br />

Fra Newbery. His book Fra H Newbery: a Dorset<br />

artist was published by Bridport Heritage<br />

Forum in 2008.<br />

Stephen Warbeck Composer began studying<br />

piano and composing at the age of four, and by<br />

his mid-teens he had developed an affinity for<br />

rock ‘n’ roll as well as for theatre. Since the early<br />

1980s, Stephen has scored numerous stage productions,<br />

television projects and feature films.<br />

He is perhaps best-known for his Academy<br />

Award-winning work on Shakespeare In Love.<br />
