Where JPEG 2000 is used for the compression <strong>of</strong> fingerprint images, specification/options<br />

contained in Pr<strong>of</strong>ile for 1000ppi Fingerprint Compression (as listed in Section 203, Normative<br />

References) shall apply. This reference addresses the 9 quality layers between 0.015 bpp <strong>and</strong><br />

0.55 bpp.<br />

Where JPEG 2000 is used for compression <strong>of</strong> facial images, the following conditions shall apply:<br />

• Filters: The 9-7 irreversible filters described in ISO 15444-1 should be used for lossy mode;<br />

however, for h<strong>and</strong>held devices (fixed-point processors), the 5-3 reversible filters may be used<br />

instead. The 5-3 reversible filters shall be used for lossless mode. A conformant decoder shall be<br />

able to decode code streams created through both filters.<br />

• Number <strong>of</strong> resolution levels: The image shall be encoded using enough resolution levels to<br />

ensure that a thumbnail with max(width, height)
