Both A level and Advanced vocational students can take
part in a range of special events, including preparation
for application and interview, visits to universities,
residential study programmes and an annual two-day
higher education conference attended by university
lecturers, former students and other organisations.
Our programme provides up-to-date information on all
aspects of university education. It tries to answer
questions that you may have about tuition fees, where to
apply and how to apply. A guidance service is available
in the summer to advise students after the exam results
come out.
College Careers Service
There is a computerised careers suite with a wide range
of resources and our own staff who work with careers
advisers from Connexions. All students are entitled to
careers interviews.
A full programme ensures that all students have the
advice needed to progress to higher education, to
careers or to a further course at Leyton or another
college.
A work experience programme is built into vocational
courses. We can help to arrange voluntary work for
students too.
Financial Support
Leyton offers some of the most generous financial
support around via the EMA (Educational Maintenance
Allowance) Scheme, the Hardship Fund and the Learner
Support Fund for students who qualify. This can mean a
weekly payment plus a bonus for completing your course
and passing. Ask for details at your interview.
College Charter
We give all students a copy of our Charter. This describes
our services, your rights as a student and what you are
entitled to expect from the College. Students also have
access to College policies and procedures and the
formal complaints procedure.
Student Diary
All students are given a working diary. It includes
the College year planner, student study and action
planner, College plan and list of services. The College
expectations and policies on work and attendance
are included, together with advice on financial and
personal welfare. This is also available on Moodle, the
College VLE (Virtual Learning Environment).
Study Conferences and Field Trips
Throughout the year many students have the opportunity
to attend subsidised residential study conferences, day
conferences, revision courses and residential field trips to
supplement their work in College.

a range of courses at all levels for full-time students aged
