V. Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Maitland, of Craigieburn,<br />

Dumfries, and Maitlandfield, Hadding<strong>to</strong>n, 1 born gth April 1752,<br />

married, 28th April 1797, Isabel, daughter of Hon. Major-<br />

General Mark Napier. She died in 1805, aged 83, and had<br />

issue<br />

March 1823, James Keith, M.D., Edinburgh, who died<br />

1863, aged 80, and had issue<br />

i. Rev. William Alexander, vicar of Burham, Kent,<br />

iii. Isabella Napier, married, 1845, RGV - Thomas Louis<br />

Trotter, rec<strong>to</strong>r of Great Stain<strong>to</strong>n, and died 1857.<br />

aged 32.<br />

VI. Thomas Maitland of Pogbie and Maitlandfield, born i5th<br />

September 1803, married Janet Brown, and had issue.<br />

VII. Thomas Maitland, in 79th Highlanders, married, and<br />

had issue, an only child, Margaret, who married, 1873, Edward<br />

S<strong>to</strong>ur, Solici<strong>to</strong>r, Manchester.<br />

Maitland of the Bass. As servi<strong>to</strong>r <strong>to</strong> the Duke of Lauderdale,<br />

had sasine of a tenement in Musselburgh and six riggs in Easter<br />

Holmes in August 1672, was a macer in Court of Session,<br />

but deprived 1684; as principal keeper of the money stamp<br />

of <strong>Scotland</strong> had sasine of a tenement of land within the burgh<br />

of Hadding<strong>to</strong>n, and i8J acres there in 1691, and died before<br />

2nd May 1708. He married, 6th August 1657, Catherine<br />

Cunningham, and had issue<br />

1. Patrick, born 8th September 1658, died in infancy.<br />

2. Elizabeth, born 26th July 1660, died in infancy.<br />

3. Mary, born 3ist December 1661, died 1747.<br />

4. Charles, born 27th February 1663, macer in the Court of<br />

Session, died at Hadding<strong>to</strong>n April 1728, married<br />

Marion Law.<br />

5. Elizabeth, born 29th July 1664.<br />

6. Janet, born i5th June 1666, died 1758.<br />

7. Isobel, born 2nd June 1668.<br />

8. Jean, born 4th May 1670.<br />

9. Catherine, born 23rd May 1672.<br />

1 Dr. Alexander Maitland of Gimmers mills (p. 94) always spoke of Colonel Charles<br />

Maitland of Maitlandfield as his cousin on his paternal side.
