In the next part, Praxithia, Orestes' fiancee,<br />

tells Orestes that she is forbidden to marry him be-<br />

cause the priests of Athens refused to give their<br />

blessing to the marriage according to the traditions<br />

of the city. The priests said that Agamemnon's murder<br />

was unavenged and that Orestes, being his son, shared<br />

the murderers'guilt. The pronouncement of the oracle<br />

only confirms the priests' words: ...The Orestes known<br />

to the gods is not yet born... (P 102)<br />

When Cassandra arrives in Athens she brings with<br />

her the money from Aegisthus to cover Orestes' ex-<br />

penses for another six months. But, Orestes refuses<br />

the money. Then Cassandra tells Orestes about Aegis-<br />

thus' policy in Argos. First, Aegisthus had given Cas-<br />
