approximation <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> following conditions :<br />

ist. The comparative extent <strong>and</strong> coujpleteness<br />

of <strong>the</strong> processes of experiment, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> apparent<br />

accuracy of <strong>the</strong> procedure.<br />

2nd. The clearness of <strong>the</strong> report.<br />

3rd. The utility of <strong>the</strong> information so conveyed.<br />

Exact measurements of results alwnys will<br />

add much value <strong>to</strong> reports of experiments, <strong>and</strong><br />

should not be omitted whenever <strong>the</strong> case may<br />

require such exactness. But in many o<strong>the</strong>r cases,<br />

estimates of comparative results, or prodvicts, by<br />

<strong>the</strong> eye, may serve, if sufficient for <strong>the</strong> ease <strong>and</strong><br />

for reaching correct conclusions.<br />
