However, in 1974, Carpentier et al. reported excellent results with<br />
tricuspid valve repair and argued for systematic repair of functional<br />
tricuspid regurgitation during mitral valve surgery<br />

It was later observed in the 1980s that some patients who had<br />
undergone successful mitral surgery returned years later with severe<br />
symptomatic tricuspid regurgitation, and when these patients were<br />
reoperated on, mortality was very high<br />
