Dilatation of the tricuspid annulus occurs primarily in its anterior/posterior (mural) aspect,<br />

which can result in significant functional TR as a result of leaflet malcoaptation<br />

The septal aspect of the tricuspid annulus is considered to be analogous to the intertrigonal<br />

portion of the mitral annulus in that it is relatively spared from annular dilation
