Moderate tricuspid regurgitation
Rationale for Surgical Correction
Patients with moderate degrees of tricuspid regurgitation require
careful consideration, because of the possibility that the severity may
have been underestimated
(vasodilators, diuretics,inotropes, fasting, and general anesthesia may result in
downgrading of severe tricuspid regurgitation)
Any patient who has any prior documentation of severe regurgitation
should undergo tricuspid valve repair, as severe regurgitation at any
point infers an abnormally functioning valve
Coexisting pulmonary hypertension is an indication for tricuspid
valve repair , and if present in the setting of moderate regurgitation, it
should alert the clinician to the possibility that regurgitation severity
is being underestimated
