1. Dummy columns for categorical factors are orthogonally coded if their
dot product is zero.
a) The column means are zero.
b) The pairwise column correlations are zero.
2. For the purpose <strong>of</strong> this course we say that a design is orthogonal if:
a) The means <strong>of</strong> the columns <strong>of</strong> the design matrix are all zero.
b) The pairwise correlation for all column pairs <strong>of</strong> the design matrix are zero.
c) So, whether a design is orthogonal can depend on the model you fit.
