Makeup <strong>of</strong> an Aircraft Carrier Air Wing
• The air wing is composed <strong>of</strong> at least 6 aircraft types
– Attack aircraft (bombers, like F/A-18)
– Fighters (CAP, RESCAP, etc, like F-35)
– Helos (SH-60, SAR, plane guard, etc)
– ASW (S-3)
– Ship-to-shore (think the C-2)
– Electronics (E-2C, EA-6B)
• Space is limited – you can only have a maximum <strong>of</strong> 85 aircraft <strong>of</strong>
all types
• A computer simulation model will be used to evaluate combat
effectiveness for different air wing configurations
