Thus, SARS could be successfully c<strong>on</strong>tained. WHO declared the global c<strong>on</strong>tainment <strong>on</strong> 5 July<br />
2003. Epidemiological data provided the necessary informati<strong>on</strong> to develop effective policies for<br />
c<strong>on</strong>trol. Extensive epidemiological investigati<strong>on</strong>s identified most of the infected people and their close<br />
c<strong>on</strong>tacts. The multicountry investigati<strong>on</strong>s helped to arrest the cross-border transmissi<strong>on</strong> of SARS,<br />
which is <strong>on</strong>e of the success stories of epidemiology.<br />
