Yucca thompsoniana thompson's yucca<br />

Charming tree yucca, reaching up to 8 ft tall x 4 ft wide with leaves that are stiff and powder blue with<br />

serrated margins and early summer flowers, white on tall stalks above the leaves. Related to and sometimes<br />

overlapping with Yucca rostrata though somewhat shorter and more branched, the multiple heads looking<br />

something like a miniature Joshua tree (Y. brevifolia). Full sun with good drainage and some summer water is<br />

best. Frost hardy to -20F, <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 5 or even lower.<br />

Arundo donax 'Peppermint Stick'<br />

An especially good variegated selection, the leaves creamy white with a central green stripe. This vigorous<br />

gr<strong>as</strong>s, straight-stemmed to 8 ft, forms clumps to 3-5 ft making a great screen or hedge. Late summer flowers<br />

appear <strong>as</strong> pinkish plumes standing above the foliage. Site in a sunny spot with its feet protected and provide<br />

summer water until well established. Evergreen and cold hardy in <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 8. A die-back perennial that<br />

can resprout <strong>as</strong> low <strong>as</strong> upper <strong>zone</strong> 5.<br />

Mounds <strong>of</strong> ever-silver foliage form clumps to 2 ft wide and about a foot tall with perennial, fluffy pink<br />

flowers from mid spring to mid summer. Takes both bl<strong>as</strong>ty sun and summmer drought. Frost hardy to -15F,<br />

mid <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 5. E<strong>as</strong>y adn pretty.<br />

This selection <strong>of</strong> our Pacific Northwest native false cypress shines all year with its sprays <strong>of</strong> intense blue<br />

foliage. Considered one <strong>of</strong> the best <strong>of</strong> the Lawson cypresses, this is a moderate grower, reaching 10-12 feet<br />

high x 3-4 feet wide in 10 years. Prefers full sun, well-drained soil, and little summer water once established.<br />

Frost hardy to at le<strong>as</strong>t -15F, mid <strong>USDA</strong> <strong>zone</strong> 5.<br />

Cupressus arizonica ‘Taylor’s Silver’ smooth arizona cypress<br />

A very tough, drought tolerant cypress, usually <strong>of</strong> rugged, picturesque character, that is well adapted to the<br />

moderate and warmer regions <strong>of</strong> the west away from the co<strong>as</strong>tal fog belt. This form, newly introduced from<br />

Europe, grows to 25 ft tall and is distinguished <strong>by</strong> its blue-ness and somewhat columnar habit. Sun to a little<br />

shade, with average drainage and little or no summer watering when established. Frost hardy in upper <strong>USDA</strong><br />

<strong>zone</strong> 5.<br />
