<strong>its</strong> <strong>latest</strong> <strong>class</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>160</strong> stu<strong>de</strong>nts<br />

Communiqué <strong>de</strong> presse<br />

<strong>Lausanne</strong>, 19 June 2007 – <strong>The</strong> graduation ceremonies for the 2007 spring term at the<br />

<strong>Ecole</strong> <strong>hôtelière</strong> <strong>de</strong> <strong>Lausanne</strong> (EHL) took place on the Chalet-à-Gobet campus on<br />

Thursday 15 and Friday 16 June. <strong>The</strong> <strong>160</strong> <strong>graduates</strong> <strong>of</strong> the «International Hospitality<br />

Management» and «Management <strong>of</strong> Hotel Operations» programmes were awar<strong>de</strong>d<br />

the School’s diploma after one and a half and four and a half years <strong>of</strong> study<br />

respectively. For both graduating <strong>class</strong>es, the ceremonies were an emotional occasion.<br />

Graduation <strong>of</strong> the Management <strong>of</strong> Hotel Operations programme<br />

<strong>The</strong> graduation ceremony <strong>of</strong> the Management <strong>of</strong> Hotel Operations programme took place on<br />

Thursday 14 June, in the presence <strong>of</strong> some 100 parents and visitors. Diplomas were awar<strong>de</strong>d to<br />

38 <strong>of</strong> the 47 stu<strong>de</strong>nts in the French- and English-language sections, after their intensive training<br />

experience comprising two terms on campus followed by a six-month internship in the industry<br />

After carrying out their internships, the stu<strong>de</strong>nts will be awar<strong>de</strong>d the Associate Degree in<br />

Management <strong>of</strong> Hotel Operations. This programme focuses particularly on the assimilation <strong>of</strong> the<br />

necessary skills, which are reinforced by further practice through the work experience during the<br />

internship. <strong>The</strong> stu<strong>de</strong>nts are exposed to the know-how and to the “savoir-être” <strong>of</strong> the<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional world.<br />

Stu<strong>de</strong>nts serving companies<br />

Towards the end <strong>of</strong> their studies, the stu<strong>de</strong>nts <strong>of</strong> the International Hospitality Management<br />

Programme work as consultants for real companies, for a period <strong>of</strong> nine weeks which they<br />

spend on site. <strong>The</strong> projects in question <strong>of</strong>ten inclu<strong>de</strong> an analysis <strong>of</strong> some aspect <strong>of</strong> the<br />

company’s activity. This year, the mandating companies who gave a vote <strong>of</strong> confi<strong>de</strong>nce to EHL<br />

stu<strong>de</strong>nts inclu<strong>de</strong>d : Flybaboo, Casino Barrière and Hyatt Over 70% <strong>of</strong> such Stu<strong>de</strong>nt Business<br />

Projets (SBPs) are subsequently implemented by the companies. Three groups <strong>of</strong> stu<strong>de</strong>nts out<br />

<strong>of</strong> 27 were awar<strong>de</strong>d prizes for the high quality <strong>of</strong> the projects they <strong>de</strong>livered.<br />

CREATIVITY PRIZE, NOVOTEL<br />

For <strong>de</strong>veloping a new foodservice concept applicable to all Novotel hotels in Switzerland, while<br />

respecting the chain’s standards and the i<strong>de</strong>ntity <strong>of</strong> the brand.<br />

To create a prize, the Hyatt International Stu<strong>de</strong>nt Prize (HISP), to reward the best stu<strong>de</strong>nt<br />

graduating from a hospitality training institute.<br />

AMBITION PRIZE, OMEGA<br />

For i<strong>de</strong>ntifying the three best company foodservice concepts which meet the needs <strong>of</strong> the staff<br />

while creating an autonomous management structure.<br />

Graduation <strong>of</strong> the International Hospitality Management programme<br />

In the course <strong>of</strong> the ceremony on 15 June, 122 <strong>of</strong> the 134 stu<strong>de</strong>nts <strong>of</strong> the French and English<br />

sections were awar<strong>de</strong>d their diplomas. This Bacholor programme enjoys the double accreditation<br />

<strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> Applied Sciences <strong>of</strong> Western Switzerland (HES-SO), awar<strong>de</strong>d by the Swiss<br />

Government, and a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in International Hospitality Management, accredited by<br />

the New England Association <strong>of</strong> School and Colleges (NEASC), in the United States. This is the<br />

most popular <strong>of</strong> the EHL programmes.<br />

as exemplified by five firms during 1996-2006”.<br />

• in the International Hospitality Management (1457 stu<strong>de</strong>nts), Management <strong>of</strong> Hotel<br />

Operations (140 stu<strong>de</strong>nts), and MBA in International Hospitality Management (21 stu<strong>de</strong>nts)<br />

programmes; 2 stu<strong>de</strong>nts are in transfer.<br />

• 778 stu<strong>de</strong>nts in the French section and 840 in the English section.<br />

• 864 women and 754 men.<br />

• A total <strong>of</strong> 85 nationalities were represented among the stu<strong>de</strong>nts this term.<br />

• 303 staff, including 93 faculty members and instructors.<br />

Introduced in 2000, the Prix Esprit EHL is awar<strong>de</strong>d to stu<strong>de</strong>nts who during their studies at EHL have shown<br />

exceptional commitment in time and energy to the good <strong>of</strong> the School and <strong>its</strong> stu<strong>de</strong>nts. <strong>The</strong> originality <strong>of</strong><br />

the Prize lies in the fact the stu<strong>de</strong>nts themselves elect one <strong>of</strong> their comra<strong>de</strong>s from their own year.<br />
