<strong>New</strong> <strong>Gradu<strong>at</strong>es</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Ecole</strong> <strong>hôtelière</strong> <strong>de</strong> <strong>Lausanne</strong><br />

<strong>Lausanne</strong>, 8 February 2010 - The d<strong>at</strong>es of 3 and 5 February will be forever engraved in <strong>the</strong> minds of<br />

<strong>the</strong> 174 stu<strong>de</strong>nts of <strong>the</strong> Bachelor Programme and <strong>the</strong> Diploma of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Ecole</strong> <strong>hôtelière</strong> <strong>de</strong> <strong>Lausanne</strong><br />

(EHL). In two distinct gradu<strong>at</strong>ion ceremonies held last Wednesday and Friday, <strong>the</strong> stu<strong>de</strong>nts<br />

received <strong>the</strong>ir qualific<strong>at</strong>ions following two years study for Diploma stu<strong>de</strong>nts and four years of<br />

study for Bachelor Programme stu<strong>de</strong>nts.<br />

Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management (DHR) Programme Gradu<strong>at</strong>ions<br />

The ceremony held on 3 February brought to a close <strong>the</strong> Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management<br />

programme, a new intensive training course th<strong>at</strong> comprises two semesters on campus, altern<strong>at</strong>ed with two<br />

six-month internships in <strong>the</strong> branch. Certific<strong>at</strong>es were awar<strong>de</strong>d to 26 of <strong>the</strong> 34 stu<strong>de</strong>nts in <strong>the</strong> French and<br />

English language sections (76% of candid<strong>at</strong>es) <strong>at</strong> this first gradu<strong>at</strong>ion ceremony of <strong>the</strong> new programme,<br />

which was launched in February 2008.<br />

2 nd ranked stu<strong>de</strong>nt: Ms Sumita Jhand, UK, English language section<br />

3 rd ranked stu<strong>de</strong>nt: Ms Anastasia Sold<strong>at</strong>ova, Russia, English language section<br />

During this first gradu<strong>at</strong>ion ceremony for DHR stu<strong>de</strong>nts a prize based on a start-up project for an enterprise<br />

was awar<strong>de</strong>d to one of <strong>the</strong> stu<strong>de</strong>nts. The winner was evalu<strong>at</strong>ed by experts from <strong>the</strong> hospitality and financial<br />

sectors. They judged all <strong>the</strong> projects and awar<strong>de</strong>d <strong>the</strong> first prize to Ms Anastasia Sold<strong>at</strong>ova for her project<br />

entitled « La Galerie ».<br />

This is a project for a boutique hotel with 44 rooms in <strong>Lausanne</strong>, including a gastronomic restaurant and an art<br />

gallery to supply a third source of income.<br />

The level of professionalism and cre<strong>at</strong>ivity shown in <strong>the</strong> Business Plan and <strong>the</strong> Internet site were especially<br />

mentioned by <strong>the</strong> experts.<br />

The Bachelor in Intern<strong>at</strong>ional Hospitality Management Programme Gradu<strong>at</strong>ions<br />

During <strong>the</strong> ceremony th<strong>at</strong> took place on 5 February, 148 stu<strong>de</strong>nts from <strong>the</strong> French and English language<br />

sections received <strong>the</strong>ir diplomas (meaning 100% of <strong>the</strong> candid<strong>at</strong>es). This programme provi<strong>de</strong>s double<br />

accredit<strong>at</strong>ion, on one hand from <strong>the</strong> University of Applied Sciences (HES), <strong>de</strong>livered by <strong>the</strong> Swiss<br />

Confe<strong>de</strong>r<strong>at</strong>ion, and on <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r a Bachelor of Science in Intern<strong>at</strong>ional Hospitality Management, from <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>New</strong> England Associ<strong>at</strong>ion of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) in <strong>the</strong> United St<strong>at</strong>es.<br />

*The EHL Spirit Prize<br />

As tradition <strong>de</strong>mands since 2000, <strong>the</strong> EHL Spirit Prize – awar<strong>de</strong>d by <strong>the</strong> Director of <strong>the</strong> Alumni Rel<strong>at</strong>ions and<br />

Career Centre – rewards stu<strong>de</strong>nts who, during <strong>the</strong>ir studies <strong>at</strong> EHL, have especially invested time and energy<br />

for <strong>the</strong> good of <strong>the</strong> School and its stu<strong>de</strong>nts. Its particularity resi<strong>de</strong>s in <strong>the</strong> fact th<strong>at</strong> it is <strong>the</strong> stu<strong>de</strong>nts <strong>the</strong>mselves<br />

who elect one of <strong>the</strong>ir classm<strong>at</strong>es.<br />

**Prize for Social Responsibility<br />

Introduced in 2009, <strong>the</strong> Prize for Social Responsibility for EHL <strong>Gradu<strong>at</strong>es</strong> rewards a stu<strong>de</strong>nt who has<br />

shown <strong>the</strong>ir commitment to sustainable <strong>de</strong>velopment during <strong>the</strong>ir studies and who has signed <strong>the</strong> Stu<strong>de</strong>nt<br />

Charter for Social Responsibility. By taking this step, stu<strong>de</strong>nts un<strong>de</strong>rtake to voluntarily adopt responsible<br />

behaviour in <strong>the</strong>ir future career. The winner of this prize will be able to select an organis<strong>at</strong>ion to which<br />

Malmaison and Hotel du Vin Hotels will remit £ 5,000 in <strong>the</strong>ir name.<br />
