The purpose of scholarships is to provide talented students with the opportunity to study
at EHL regardless of their financial situation. Scholarships are granted to
outstanding students on the basis of merit and demonstrated financial need.
Who can apply for a scholarship?
Eligibility for a scholarship varies by programme. Please refer to the following list in
order to ensure that you are eligible for a scholarship.
Diploma programme: Swiss students, foreign students with permanent
residence in Switzerland & international students
Bachelor programme: International students only 1
Master programme: Swiss students, foreign students with permanent residence
in Switzerland & international students; Only half tuition fees scholarships are
available for master students
Students who intend to apply for a scholarship must demonstrate that they did their best
to find other financial means to cover the expenses related to their studies, such as
financial aid scheme from their government, other scholarship programmes or bank
loans.
What kinds of scholarships are granted by EHL?
Three types of scholarships, as well as honor loans, are available depending on your
financial needs.
Tuition and compulsory fees: These scholarships cover tuition fees and other
compulsory fees, such as study material, insurance, meal plan, for the entire
period of study. Additional expenses will need to be covered by the student.
Tuition fees only: These scholarships cover tuition fees for the entire period of
study. Additional expenses will need to be covered by the student.
Half Tuition fees: These scholarships cover the half of the tuition fees for the
entire period of study. Additional expenses will need to be covered by the
student.
Honor Loan: applicants who need additional financial aid in addition to the
scholarship can also apply for an EHL Honor Loan. The amount requested has to
be specified by the applicant and justified by his/her financial situation. No
interest is charged for honor loans, the reimbursement must start no later than 2
years after graduation.
In order to apply for a scholarship, the applicant must prove that he/she will be able to
cover any additional costs that are not included in the scholarship.
1
Given that Swiss student and permanent resident in Switzerland benefit from a partial tuition fee refund by HES-SO, they are
not eligible for a scholarship if they enroll in the Bachelor programme. For further information, please consult:
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDLINES
How does the selection process work for scholarship candidates?
Bachelor and Diploma programmes:
To be eligible for a scholarship you must have started your admission process via our
online admission module (you must have at least a username and a password). As soon
as you are registered, you can send the scholarship application package (see p.3) as
indicated on our website. Once all the required documents have been received, the
Scholarship Commission will decide to either further consider or to dismiss your
application according to the information provided regarding proven financial needs.
If the Commission considers your application, you will be asked to attend an interview,
most likely during the Admission Selection Day. The purpose of this interview is to
review and clarify your application and to further discuss you reasons for applying for a
scholarship 2 .
The financial situation and academic potential of each candidate are then reviewed by
the Scholarship Commission who will rank applicants; scholarships will be granted based
on ranking and available funds. The ranking criteria are the following:
Overall quality of the admission application package
Overall quality of the scholarship application package
Results during the admission Selection Day
 Academic results during previous studies
Master programme:
The procedure for MHA applications is similar as above. However, given that MHA
applicants do not have a Selection Day on campus, they are asked to have the interview
with over the phone with a member of the scholarship commission or an alumni
representative of their own country (or the nearest country); the location and the
schedule for this interview will be sent by email to the applicant. Furthermore, they will
be ranked according to their GMAT results rather than results from the Selection Day.
The Scholarship Commission is composed of, one representative of the alumni, one
faculty representative, EHL’s Director of development, EHL’s Director of finance,
EHL’s Assistant Director of Student Affairs and one representative of the student
body.
If you have not submitted your admission application yet, please do so via EHL’s online admission
module at the address in footnote 3 . Please note that students’ scholarship applications will be
automatically dismissed if the student is not admitted to EHL.
Students wishing to enroll in the Bachelor programme in 2012 should submit their
scholarship application no later than 1 February 2012. For the Diploma programme,
the applications must be submitted no later than 15 November 2011 for the winter
intake and no later than the 1 May 2012 for the summer intake. For the Master
programme, the applications must be submitted no later than 1 May 2012.
Scholarships are only offered to new students. Should your application be
dismissed, you can reapply for the next academic term, but you will have to postpone
your enrollment accordingly.
For your information, MHA applicants with a GMAT result under 600 are unlikely to get a
scholarship.
2 If you have already attended the Selection Day, the interview will be held over the phone.
How am I to prepare my application package?
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDLINES
Since EHL receives many more applications for scholarships than there are places
available, it is very important to prepare and submit all the required documents with
your application package.
Incomplete applications or applications submitted before applying for admittance to EHL
will not be considered!
In order to apply for a scholarship, the following documents need to be scanned and
submitted to EHL by email at scholarship@ehl.ch
A motivation letter explaining the reasons why you wish to apply for a
scholarship, why you have decided to study at EHL and describing your career
objectives;
 A Curriculum Vitae;
A letter of recommendation from 3 teachers of your former secondary school /
higher education institution, or from 3 employers if you have finished your
studies for more than 2 years;
 A letter of recommendation from a former employer (if applicable);
 The completed electronic budget form;
Relevant certificates as indicated in the electronic budget form.
 A copy of your passport
Applicants are requested to provide a copy of original documents and a corresponding
English or French official translation supplied by a certified authority such as a public
translator.
What follow up will be held during the period of study?
Students that are granted with a scholarship will be responsible for organising a meeting
with the Scholarship Commission after each exam session, as soon as they receive their
results.
The Scholarship commission will then review the academic results of the student, his
financial situation, as well as his general attitude. Depending on these previous points
the Scholarship Commission will then decide if the financial aid is maintained or not.
We expect from the beneficiaries to have a responsible and exemplary behavior.
Inadequate attitude inside or outside of the campus might result in the immediate
ending of the scholarship. The Scholarship Commission reserves its right to ask for a
partial or total reimbursement of the scholarship in case of serious infraction.
In the first part of the form, you are asked to insert your name and surname (1), and to
indicate the type of scholarship you wish to apply for and the programme you are
enrolled in at EHL (2). This selection result in the automatic calculation of expenses
covered by the scholarship (cf. 3 rd part pt.13), as well as the expenses that will remain
your responsibility (cf. 3 rd part pt.14). The amounts indicated in the form are in Swiss
francs. We kindly ask you to convert all amounts you enter into Swiss francs. For that
purpose, a link in the first section of the form will direct you to an online currency
converter (3).
3
1
Very few “Tuition and compulsory fees” scholarships will be awarded. Please be sure to
select the scholarship that suits your financial needs, otherwise your application might
be automatically dismissed by the Commission. If necessary you can also apply for an
honor loan in addition to your scholarship.
2 nd part of the form
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDLINES
The second part of the form refers to your personal situation and information contents
on your relatives. When you tick the corresponding boxes (4), specific questions will
appear (5) along with a red field where you can enter your answer (6). For some
questions you will be asked to provide a certificate. In this case, a comment will appear
on the right side of the form (7). If there is no corresponding certificate, you must
provide a letter signed by the person / organization responsible. If you would like to
apply for an honor loan, please check the corresponding checkbox (8) in the personal
situation part and indicate the amount requested (9).
3 rd part of the form
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDLINES
The last part of the form is related to your budget. Firstly, you will have to indicate your
earnings in the red fields (10). These fields appear depending on the boxes selected in
the second part of the form. Please note that sources of income must be entered on an
annual basis. The total for the entire period of study will be calculated automatically
depending on the programme you have chosen to follow at EHL (11). However, lump
sum earnings must be entered directly for the entire period of study (12).
We expect applicants to earn about 3000 CHF per year during their studies by working
during weekends and holidays, which represent half of their living expenses. They are
responsible for meeting this requirement.
The expenses covered by the scholarship (13), as well as the expenses that remain the
student’s responsibility (14) are calculated automatically. The total amount is calculated
for the entire period of study.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDLINES
In the final table you can add special expenses that have not been accounted for in the
previous tables (i.e. flight tickets); the nature of the expense is entered on the left side
(15) and the amount on the right side (16).
This field might also be used to correct your expenses by including a negative number.
For instance, if the student thinks that he might save money by buying second hand
books, it is possible to indicate the purchase of “Second hand books” along with a
correction of CHF – 1000.- (17).
At the end of the form the estimated remaining costs or excess income (18) are
automatically calculated. If there are remaining costs, the field will appear in red and
you will not be able to save the form.
The reset button at the end the last page can be used to empty all the fields and
checkboxes of the form (19).
15
Remember that YOU HAVE TO ENSURE THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO COVER ALL
COSTS THAT ARE NOT COVERED BY THE SCHOLARSHIP. If you are not able to
meet this requirement, you must find other sources of financial aid such as benefactors,
grants and/or other scholarships prior to applying for a scholarship at EHL.
