Not just any old iron 

People have been melting scrap down ever since the dawn of the Iron Age. These days secondary materials make up about 50% of 

the feedstock used to produce steel. Looking at it this way, Loacker’s recycling networks are among Europe’s richest deposits of iron. 

Our iron and non-ferrous metal recycling networks stretch from Spain to Ukraine, and from Sicily to northern Sweden and Finland. 

Loacker uses and markets light and heavy scrap of all kinds. 

For example, we employ state-of-the-art technology to process scrap cars. After the contaminants have been removed the 

vehicles are shredded. Up to 80% of a car is recyclable. We use blowtorches and shears to cut heavy scrap such as heavy machinery 

and structural steelwork down to the desired sizes. We load the scrap at our own railway sidings and transport it to 

the steelworks on wagons.

Specialised in non-ferrous 

metals and cables 

Loacker specialises in non-ferrous metals such as aluminium, copper, bronze, brass, zinc, lead, tin and nickel. For example, we 

operate one of the largest and most modern cable processing works in Central Europe, in Wonfurt, Germany. Thanks to our analysis 

instruments we can determine the composition of all non-ferrous metal scrap, including alloys, with absolute precision. This 

enables us to promise our suppliers transparent pricing, and our buyers at the smelters top quality.

Glass, paper, wood and plastic – at Loacker we recycle any materials that arise in waste and are in demand. For example, we 

close the paper production loop by collaborating with one of Europe’s most advanced waste paper sorting plants, operated by 

the Entsorgungswirtschaft am Bodensee (EWB) joint venture. We process your wood waste into wood chip for use as fuel or 

chipboard feedstock. And we sort, shred and bundle plastics into industrial feedstock.

Secure document and disk destruction 

Play safe when disposing of your documents and data storage media – with Loacker’s SAVE system. SAVE is a watertight system for 

fully supervised, DIN 32757 and Önorm S-2109 compliant document and data destruction. This brings you:

Demolition and waste separation 

Loacker specialises in demolition and clearance work. We take care of expert demolition, on site waste separation, removal from 

the site, and recycling or disposal of the materials. Loft clearances, demolition of condemned buildings and dismantling of industrial 

plant – we do the lot. 

Cathodes 

We supply a large number of electroplating companies and some foundries with copper 

and nickel cathodes which we cut to size and pack in-house. The industry has 

very high quality (purity) standards – one of our key success drivers in this market. 

Thanks to our in-house shearing machine we can meet customer requirements rapidly 

and flexibly at all times. The copper cathode business enables us to conserve 

valuable resources by closing the recycling loop.

Tomorrow’s recycling 

with renewable energy 

Anyone concerned with closed loop materials cycles – and thus with mankind’s future – can scarcely ignore renewable energy 

sources, and Loacker is no exception. The Loacker Group plans to invest about EUR 60 million in renewable energy equipment 

up to 2015. Photovoltaic, wind and biomass power generation are a logical extension of materials recycling. Loacker currently 

operates five photovoltaic arrays in Germany and Italy. Following the addition of a new free-standing array in Slovakia, the 

group now has a total generating capacity of 4.5 MW.

Company founder Katharina Loacker began collecting scrap in the Götzis area in 1886. The company grew steadily by responding

Event and construction site services 

Our Feldkirch facility focuses on delivering seamless support services to event organisers and builders. Its service offerings 

have been extended over the years to embrace all types of events and building sites. 

Besides a wide range of sanitary facilities (portable toilets, shower blocks, etc.), we can provide refrigerated and storage 

containers, barriers and tarpaulin screens. 

Because every construction site and event needs bespoke planning and careful thought about the equipment required our

A business with long traditions 

Dockal Recycling GmbH, founded by Alfred Dockal in 1950, initially specialised in junk collection. Following steady growth 

over the years, today the company’s core business is collecting and recycling scrap iron and non-ferrous metals. It was 

taken over by the Loacker Group in 2008. 

Two briquetting presses 

Loacker Recycling operates two briquetting machines at the Frastanz facility, with an annual output of about 16,000 

tonnes. These are mainly used to compact steel swarf containing grinding sludge into mixed briquettes for use as feedstock 

by steelworks. They are also employed to recycle other forms of grinding sludge, grinding dust, scale and laser dust 

that contains iron.

Composting – a future friendly approach to organic waste recycling and processing 

The Branner facility in Rankweil an der Frutzbrücke specialises in processing and recycling sewage sludge and garden 

waste from the surrounding area. It employs advanced technology to make a wide range of quality composts for differing 

uses. 

Sewage sludge compost is largely used by farms, as fertiliser. The main inputs for the compost are garden waste, sewage 

sludge and rootstock, which can be disposed of at affordable rates at the Branner plant. 

Thanks to the variety of composting processes used, customers can choose between multi-purpose soil, bark mulch, 

garden waste compost and sewage sludge compost.

Over 50 years’ experience 

Hubert Häusle set up the business as a haulage company in 1958. Its first landfill opened in 1964, and high-quality sorting 

equipment was gradually introduced over time. 

The company went on to expand and to specialise in materials recycling. Another line of business is renewable energy 

generation, at the Lustenau site. Häusle operates biogas and CHP plants. 

The company has acquired stakes in a number of other nearby waste disposal firms, in Vorarlberg and Switzerland. It has 

high-tech sorting and processing equipment that is mainly used to supply secondary materials to Austrian industry.

Longstanding alliance between two family firms 

The company was founded by Stefan Weiss in 1971, and still belongs to his family. Weiss Schrott specialises in iron and 

non-ferrous metal scrap trading, demolition, container services and scrap car recycling. 

Loacker’s investment in Weiss has resulted in optimum capacity utilisation for both sides, and safe jobs for the workforces

L & S Recycling is a full-line recycling services provider. Its core businesses are iron and non-ferrous metal scrap trading, and 

processing of these materials. It also offers container, skip and bin hire, and complex demolition services, as well as bespoke 

solutions across all areas of waste disposal. 

L&S takes deliveries of recycling materials as well as organising collection. The materials are processed to enable steel mills, 

smelting works, foundries and paper mills to re-use them as secondary raw materials, making a significant contribution to resource 

conservation. The construction of a new waste paper logistics centre in St. Pölten will give the company state-of-the-art 

facilities for this area of business, and boost the volume of paper sorted. 

The main recycling facility, in the south of the town, has a railway siding and is close to the motorway. The Krems branch also 

benefits from an ideal location, at a goods railway station, permitting direct rail delivery and rapid, eco-friendly order fulfilment. 

A new operation in Vienna’s 22nd district has expanded the company’s market coverage in eastern Austria.

Dilger GmbH was formed 1973, going on to become the leading non-ferrous metal dealer in southern Germany. The Loacker 

Group acquired this successful company in 1999. Dilger’s core business is non-ferrous metal dealing. It has the necessary 

know-how to recycle all the main groups of metals. 

The change of ownership at the turn of the millennium ushered in a new era in the company’s history. The new management 

is maintaining Dilger’s non-ferrous metal dealing traditions. Efforts to break into cross-border markets are strengthening its 

position and opening up new perspectives. 

At the same time the company’s activities have been extended, and scrap iron and waste management businesses introduced. 

It can now offer end-to-end recycling solutions that bring major customer benefits.

This German recycling company, formed by Walter Fichtler and his wife Marlies in 1996, specialises in recycling cables, 

plastics and metallic composites, as well as producing copper, aluminium and other metal granules, and plastic granules. 

It has a cable and metallic composite processing plant. 

Based in Wonfurt in central Germany, Fichtler Recycling enables Loacker to extract yet more value from the materials it 

recycles.

Germany. The JV partners both have extensive experience of the recycling industry. SRP plays a vital role in the domestic

System-Alpenluft AG was formed in 2011 to develop Switzerland’s first integrated waste management system based on 

electric powered vehicles. The genesis of this zero emission waste disposal solution was a custom development for the

Loacker Recycling AG, based in Schaan in the Principality of Liechtenstein, was formed in 2001. Initially this was a twoperson

Loacker Recycling’s first foreign branch office is located in Budapest. Since the Hungarian capital is an excellent springboard 

for entry to attractive procurement and sales markets the new branch should add to the group’s business muscle. 

Loacker Hulladékhasznosító Kft. is one of Hungary’s most advanced waste disposal and scrap trading businesses, and uses 

only state-of-the-art IT systems and vehicles. 

A new Loacker branch office recently opened in Kiskorpád (around 2½ hours’ drive south-west of Budapest, and not far to 

the north-west of Pécs). This operation will develop the south Hungarian market, focusing on industrial companies in and 

around Pécs, a city with a population of some 170,000. 

The site has a large office building, railway sidings and a truck fleet, making it the ideal platform for the continued expansion 

of Loacker’s Hungarian operations.

Loacker Recycling s.r.o. was founded in 2004 as a subsidiary of Loacker Recycling GmbH. The Loacker Group’s expertise is 

setting new standards for waste management in Slovakia. 

Expert waste disposal services are provided by experienced staff, using modern vehicles and processing plant (e.g. scrap 

shears). 

The largest steelworks in Slovakia, a subsidiary of US Steel employing 14,000 people, adjoins the Loacker site. With a plant 

like this on its doorstep, Loacker hopes that opportunities for growth will emerge. 

At present, eight employees make up the team at the Kosice site, which already has a 20-metre weighbridge and a container 

office. Six blue Loacker trucks are based at the site.
