Not just any old iron People have been melting scrap down ever since the dawn of the Iron Age. These days secondary materials make up about 50% of the feedstock used to produce steel. Looking at it this way, Loacker’s recycling networks are among Europe’s richest deposits of iron. Our iron and non-ferrous metal recycling networks stretch from Spain to Ukraine, and from Sicily to northern Sweden and Finland. Loacker uses and markets light and heavy scrap of all kinds. For example, we employ state-of-the-art technology to process scrap cars. After the contaminants have been removed the vehicles are shredded. Up to 80% of a car is recyclable. We use blowtorches and shears to cut heavy scrap such as heavy machinery and structural steelwork down to the desired sizes. We load the scrap at our own railway sidings and transport it to the steelworks on wagons.
