Cricket Green School
We have reached the end of the year and I can reflect on a fantastic year. Our pupils have had some brilliant achievements and I
am immensely proud of them all. Achievements have been in pupils learning to speak, becoming more independent, singing solos in
form of the whole school, achieving The Jack Petchey Award, attending a residential, tolerating changes more easily, learning to
ride a horse, learning to read, achieving a Btec in Art….the list could go on.
Thank you also for the support of all families and friends. It means so much to us.
The staff will now take a well earned rest and be back to give of their best in the new academic year. I wish you all a wonderful
summer break and look forward to seeing all pupils back at Cricket Green on September 6 th . Make a note ..join us for the flame !!
With best wishes,
Alison Roach - Assistant Head
It has been a very successful year KST 3 for pupils and staff.
After this years travel training 10 more pupils now are
independent. All pupils really enjoyed the experience and made
them feel really grown up. There were 3 more Jack Petchey
winners. 3H had a wonderful trip to Stonehenge thanks to
Mark Turner winning last year.
We look forward to another successful year next year.
Annie Brine - Assistant Head
Our year 11 students sat the new Functional skills tests in English,
Maths and ICT for the first time. We are using these to replace
the straight forward tests we used before, as they are much more
practically based and set the learning within ‘real life’ contexts
which makes it easier for the learners to apply in their own situations.
For the first time some of the students in year 10 had the opportunity
to start studying the BTEC Level 1 certificate in Art and Design
under the tutelage of Mr Lansley. They have thoroughly
enjoyed the course and have produced some excellent pieces of art
work.
Overall it has been another positive and successful year for us. Our
students have demonstrated their skills in a whole range of situations
and we look forward to developing these further next year.
Playground Appeal
This is an appeal to raise
£46,000 to provide a playground;
which offers physical,
educational, and sensory
challenges and enjoyment for
children with diverse learning
needs including moderate and
severe learning
difficulties and autism.
The 158 pupils at the school will
benefit from the improved facilities
during school PE provision and
playtimes. In addition, 16-20
children attend an After-School Club
and two Saturday Clubs and the
facilities will be used by Crossroads
Club, Special Needs Club three
nights a week, and by Merton Mencap
each weekend for the Saturday Club
and in the holidays.
Each area lends itself to being
funded by one donor, which will bear
the name of the donor.
We hope to secure donations and
pledges by the end of 2012, so that
building work on the playground can
commence in Spring 2013.

Butlins 2012
6th Form
This year saw a first for our 6th form – we took a group to Butlins in Bognor for 4 nights. We stayed in
self-catering chalets so the students were responsible for keeping their rooms tidy, organising their own
breakfast and lunch and making decisions about what to wear and which activities they wanted to do.
This was a brilliant trip and everyone had a great time with lots of fun. In addition to that, it was an
excellent opportunity for the students to develop their independence and social skills and they showed
great maturity and learned to consider the needs and preferences of others. Overall it was a real chance
to build team spirit and the students helped each other (and the staff) and relationships were taken to a
deeper level.
The ‘Dickens of Life’ project gave the pupils in the Year 10 Entry Level group the opportunity
to perform at Wimbledon Theatre. The pupils involved spent several weeks learning about their
characters, practicing their scripts and rehearsing. Throughout the whole process all the pupils
showed a tremendous amount of professionalism and dedication and this was most certainly
reflected in the quality of their final performance. It was a great experience for all involved
and the group developed a considerable bond from working so closely together. It is difficult
to single out any one performer who excelled as all those involved did so very well! Although,
since the performance several of the pupils have been offered the opportunity to join a local
youth theatre so they get the chance to show off their skills on the stage on a more regular
basis! All in all a fantastic experience for the pupils – Very well done to all the cast!!!
Mr Brown 3S / Drama Teacher

It has been a very exciting year for
Shed 13. In May we celebrated our
5th year of Room 13 international.
We held an artyparty for all of
Cricket Green to enjoy Shed 13, Mr
O’Brien and the 6th formers catered
for the event and made some
delicious food for everyone. We also
had a disco outside where students
enjoyed dancing away.
In June we had a very exciting visit
to Blach Roch in central London. We
had an opportunity to meet other
Room 13 studios from the south. We
had our own stall selling handmade
arts and crafts that the students had
made.
There was a silent auction where
Anisa donated her aboriginal emu
painting which sold for £200.
We are so proud that we made £290
from the auction
The money raised will go towards the
materials we use in Shed 13.
Cricket Green School held an arts
exhibiton at Wimbledon Village Hall
last week.
We had many visitors and raised over
£1000 the arts at Cricket Green
School.
Our Shed 13 artists also displayed
their work in the exhibition.
Check out the next newsletter for
more information.
