DAUERHOLZ flooring – independent of its profiles – is therefore also eminently
suitable for areas with an increased risk of slipping and / or wet
barefoot areas.
2.8 DAUERHOLZ environmental compatibility / emissions
DAUERHOLZ solely comprises indigenous wood and wax. DAUERHOLZ
does not contain any substances subject to marking or toxicity. No polluting
substances or waste arise during the production of DAUERHOLZ.
The wax used for hydrophobicity (water-repellent impregnation) merely
comprises carbon and hydrogen, is very hard and pure, odourless and
tasteless, insoluble in almost all substances (e. g. water but also sulphuric
acid and nitric acid) and can not be mixed with water. It complies
with the guidelines for use in the foodstuffs industry (e. g. as cheese rind
or in the manufacture of jellybabies or lipstick). The wax melting point is
approx. > 80 ° C with the result that DAUERHOLZ does not display any wax
emissions, even at extremely high surface temperatures.
2.9 Sawing / Planing / Boring DAUERHOLZ
DAUERHOLZ can be processed using all standard wood-planing tools,
whereby tool wear is somewhat less than in the case of untreated wood.
Depending on the processing intensity, the wax content in the wood can
cause deposits on tools and machinery after some time which are easily
removed using normal cleaning baths or resin removers. Owing to the
wax content in the material, manual or automatic grinding of DAUERHOLZ
is not possible with grinding belts or grinding tools and / or causes extensive
wear on the part of grinding equipment.
3. Surface treatment
DAUERSCHÖN + wood oil
On account of its wax content, DAUERHOLZ may only be coated using the
suitable surface materials approved for this purpose by DAUERHOLZ AG.
The wood is UV-protected thanks to the DAUERSCHÖN + wood oil used
for the initial coating. DAUERHOLZ also recommends annual application
of DAUERSCHÖN + to retain the original shade of wood. Coloured coating
materials can not be used on account of their poor adhesive properties.
4. Joining
4.1 Screwing / Nailing / Clamping DAUERHOLZ
DAUERHOLZ can be easily joined with nails, screws and clamps. As a
general rule, splitting strength is approx. 30 % higher than in the case of
untreated wood with the result that joins are also possible near the edge.
Nevertheless, we recommend pre-boring the material for screw diameters
> 3 mm. DAUERHOLZ displays neutral features as regards joining
elements, i.e. it does not promote corrosion. The use of stainless steel
joining elements is however recommended in outdoor applications as
only they comply with the long service life represented by DAUERHOLZ.
Nor does the use of compressed air clamping devices present a problem
although we do recommend the use of resin-coated expanding clips or
screw nails as only these guarantee the requisite pull resistance and we
also recommend advance testing under real application conditions.
4.2 Gluing DAUERHOLZ
DAUERHOLZ can only be glued using special adhesives. We recommend
Purbond HB S309 polyurethane glue. This recommendation does not
however release the user from his obligation to confirm the suitability of
adhesives for the respective application by means of independent testing.
PVAC glues are not generally suitable for gluing DAUERHOLZ.
5. Storage and transport
5.1 Trade and building site
DAUERHOLZ is a high-quality end product for outdoor applications. The
transport packaging supplied in the factory is also of the same high quality.
It is intended to protect the products from dirt and dust during transport
as well as facilitate easy and safe transport. It does not however
represent protection from mechanical damage, e. g. by forklift equipment.
On the building site, the packaging foil should not be removed until
shortly before the products are required. Owing to their very smooth surface,
DAUERHOLZ products tend to slide inside the packaging. For this
reason, loads must be suitably secured on the truck and packages must
display multiple bindings. DAUERHOLZ is not a hazardous substance and
is not therefore subject to any type of marking.
6. General
6.1 General safety and industrial safety
During processing and treatment, DAUERHOLZ is subject to the same
professional liability association safety specifications as untreated
wood. This applies for both personal safety equipment during machine
handling and the chip extraction process. On very smooth floors (e. g.
industrial floors made of hardened concrete), DAUERHOLZ chips can
represent an increased risk of slipping (similar to that of MDF dust). In
such cases, we recommend the use of non-slip mats in the machine
operating area.
6.2 PEFC certification
DAUERHOLZ production and therefore the actual products were certified
in accordance with the PEFC Standard within the framework of the audit
performed on 11 September 2009. DAUERHOLZ only uses wood from
PEFC-certified stocks.
6.3 DAUERHOLZ recycling/disposal
DAUERHOLZ is classified as a bio-mass in accordance with § 2 of the
Bio-mass Directive dated 21 June 2001. Accordingly, energetic application
in a simple (< 1 MW heat input) or formal (> 1 MW heat input) firing
installation subject to approval is possible at all times in accordance with
the German Clean Air Act. In line with the Waste Index Directive dated 1
May 2005, DAUERHOLZ and/or products manufactured from DAUERHOLZ
involve non-toxic treated used wood and are as such classified with the
030105 waste code and 03 specification. The Waste Wood Ordinance
dated 15 August 2002 classifies DAUERHOLZ as waste wood category
A II (treated used wood without halogens or wood protection agents
featuring an extensive wood content). DAUERHOLZ does not therefore
represent waste subject to any particular monitoring processes and can
be exploited as both a material and in terms of energy.
