The Editor was the ineans of constituting three Gaelic
speaking clubs in Glasgow. Thefirst in 1790 ; the second
in 1795 ; and the third in the year 1800. The two first
were discontinued without any cause than the restriction
the members lay under to pay afine, if they did not attend
once every week during the winter season, and once a
month during summer, besides a small fine was imposed
on any stationary meniber (honorary excepted) who spoke
English for the first hour after sitting.
The third being instituted in February 1800, to consist
of no more than 25 selected gentlemen, chosen unanimously,
who continued together happily and harmoniously
for 18 years, untiU various causes incident to human life,
reduced the members to a few, who with much reluctance
gave it up.
The following feeble compositions are copied from the
Club Book, as composed by the first President (Uonnacha'
mac-brian borra mac a Cheanneididh) of the association.
