How to Paint a Room Lesson 5 The following instructions appear on a one-gallon can of paint. It is important to follow the directions in order. 1. Prepare the surface. Clean to remove dirt and dust. Sand lightly to brush off loose paint and dull any shine on the surface. Fill cracks and holes with spackling paste to smooth uneven areas. When dry, sand and cover repairs with a primer. 2.
