“Buckingham Palace, District Six” (David Philip:1986). Richard Rive’s novel,<br />
set in <strong>Cape</strong> <strong>Town</strong>’s District Six, is a witty, funny, nostalgic and moving protest<br />
against Apar<strong>the</strong>id’s forced removals. The session will be conducted by Shaun<br />
Viljoen, a lecturer in <strong>the</strong> English Department at Stellenbosch University, who<br />
did his doctorate on Rive’s life and work. Dramatic readings will be done by<br />
Basil Appollis, actor, director and playwright, who is currently working on a<br />
TV series inspired by Rive’s novel.<br />
