RICS Quiz Night
Over a 120 UAE based Chartered Surveyors and friends from the property industry braved the heat in June, to
attend the first RICS matrics Middle East Quiz.
Dubai based Cluttons beat thirteen other teams to win the quiz, held at Media One Hotel in Dubai Media
City. After receiving the trophy from Jim Drysdale, RICS MENEA Director, Richard Paul, Associate at Cluttons
attributed their success to their thunderous singing in the final round, crucial timing of playing their ‘Joker’ in an
earlier round to strategically double their points, and all round great team, each of whom appeared to house an
amazing amount of irrelevant trivia, that they never knew how they knew and will probably never use again –
until next years Quiz!
The Quiz Master Richard Vaughan, Managing Director at VSH International, read out the questions for the
evening with the enthusiasm of Forsyth and the wit of Wogan, he never tired and was always ready for a heckler,
never failing to win the banter due to an iron grip on his microphone!
At the beginning of the evening, none of the teams knew what to expect but once they were comfortably
enjoying dinner, Sam Morris, Chairman of RICS matrics UAE, talked them through the night and the teams
quickly settled in and got down to business enthusiastically appointing team captains, runners, and every round
as it came.
A diverse range of Sponsors raffle prizes and gifts awarded throughout the evening kept the teams on the ball
and two delightful assistants ensured the teams bought plenty of raffle tickets to support the chosen charities –
LionHeart and Al Noor Centre for Children with Special Needs. The event wouldn’t have been the success it was
without the great efforts of the chief organisers Richard Angel and Richard Scarth of Asteco LLC international
associates of Savills, assisted by Joe Morris and Jenny Hopkins, RICS UAE Comms Officer.
Cluttons enthusiasm carried on long after the evening closed and celebrations carried on into the early hours of
Thursday morning. The trophy is now on display in the Cluttons office for all of the other teams to see with envy
for the next twelve months!
