Beneath the Surface<br />
Find deeper truths–by reading a book!<br />
Register during our <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>Reading</strong><br />
Kickoff on Friday, <strong>June</strong> 7 or anytime<br />
after, and start reading! Get a free Nino<br />
pizza from Cottage Inn just for signing<br />
up. For every hour you read, you get an<br />
entry into our Grand Prize Drawing. After<br />
reading five, 10 and 15 hours, you get<br />
mini–buttons, free bowling at Chelsea<br />
Lanes, or $5 off library fines! Keep on<br />
reading! After 20 hours, you get a free<br />
teen novel!<br />
This year’s grand prizes include: Two<br />
$100 gift certificates to Amazon.com! All<br />
entries are due by 12pm on July 31st.<br />
Winners will be announced at 3pm, after<br />
the <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>Reading</strong> Finale.<br />

opportunity? Sign up for the Youth<br />
Service Group, a crew of teens going<br />
into grades 7 and up that help make<br />
youth and teen programs run smoothly<br />
all summer long. Make new friends,<br />
learn workplace skills, and fulfill that<br />
community service requirement. If<br />
you’re looking for a challenge, special<br />
leadership opportunities will be<br />

sign up forms, and attend one of our<br />
special orientation events!<br />

difference in your community? Learn<br />
what Youth Service Group (YSG) is all<br />
about, get your schedule for the summer<br />
lined up, and get your special YSG<br />
t–shirt. Forms will be available at the<br />
1st Level Information Desk and on the<br />
teen blog.<br />

Dungeons and Dragons isn’t just fun,<br />
it’s challenging! Build your character,<br />
solve puzzles, battle monsters, and<br />
find treasure. New and experienced<br />
gamers are welcome! Most Tuesdays<br />
and Thursdays, see online calendar for<br />

This new Youth Service Group (YSG)<br />
opportunity pairs young readers with<br />
a teen or adult volunteer for a fun,<br />
stress–free reading session. Listen to<br />
your younger buddy read to you every<br />
Thursday during <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>Reading</strong>, and<br />
qualify for unique prizes!<br />
<strong>Reading</strong> Buddies must attend the <strong>June</strong><br />
6th Read to Your Library Buddy Volunteer<br />
Training and fill out the YSG Application<br />
by Thursday, <strong>June</strong> 13. After turning in<br />
your forms, all you need is a love of<br />
reading, patience, and a desire to help<br />
children.<br />

This mandatory training by Lisa<br />
Kaemming, <strong>Reading</strong> Specialist at North<br />
Creek Elementary, will teach volunteers<br />
how to help children choose a book at<br />
an appropriate reading level, encourage<br />
readers to read at their own pace, and<br />
find out how much fun you can have<br />
while reading together!<br />
