worldwide publishing deals<br />

with chart-topping songwriters<br />

Rivers Rutherford and Luke Laird.<br />

Rutherford signed with UMPG in<br />

1996 and has enjoyed numerous<br />

awards including ASCAP’s Country<br />

Song of the Year and Country Songwriter<br />

of the Year. Rutherford’s<br />

songs have been recorded by Keith<br />

Urban, Carrie Underwood, Tim<br />

McGraw, Gretchen Wilson, Reba<br />

McEntire, Faith Hill, and Darius<br />

Rucker. Laird has had numerous hits<br />

including “Last Name” and “So<br />

Small” by Carrie Underwood on her<br />

multi-platinum Carnival Ride and<br />

her single, “Temporary Home” from<br />

Play On. Laird’s “Hillbilly Bone,” by<br />

Blake Shelton, is also hot on the<br />

country charts. Tim McGraw, Rascal<br />

Flatts, Lee Ann Womack, Jessica<br />

Simpson, and Julianne Hough have<br />

also recorded Laird’s work.<br />

OLYMPIC SYNCHS<br />

UMPG artists Hedley, K-OS, Alanis Morissette, and Rondor’s Avril<br />

Lavigne all performed during the closing ceremonies for the<br />

Olympics. UMPG licensed over 40 songs for the Olympics broadcast.<br />

MARS BONFIRE “BORN TO BE WILD”<br />

Mars Bonfire and “Born to be Wild” were the focus of<br />

this year’s “Life of A Song” conference during Canadian<br />

<strong>Music</strong> Week. Jodie Ferneyhough joined Bonfire as<br />

they discussed the longevity the song has ach-ieved<br />

through its multiple incarnations and synch uses.<br />
