UMPG Renews Longtime Deal with
Johnny Marr of Legendary Band,The Smiths

Weller has been named this year’s Shockwaves

New Signings:
The XX and The Drums
UMPG UK have signed South London band The
XX, whose eponymous debut album has won the
XFM New Music Award, which recognises the best
British debut album of the year. UMPG UK have also
signed New York guitar band The Drums who recently
won the NME Philip Hall Radar award, which recognises
the most promising artist for the coming year. UMPG
Universal Music Publishing UK announced the renewal
of Johnny Marr to a long-term, global publishing
agreement, for all of the songwriter/guitarist’s
songs co-written for legendary band The Smiths.
Johnny Marr enjoyed huge success at an early age
with The Smiths whose four studio albums, co-written
by Marr, are widely recognised as classics.

rap superstars to take home the prize at the ceremony
– which recognizes Music Of Black Origin
(MOBO). ■ U2 won Best Live Act award at the European
MTV Awards. ■ Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida”

Publishing Company Of The Year. ■ Lily Allen’s
