International <strong>Shooting</strong> Sports<br />

Federation (ISSF) World Cup<br />

Slovenia from July 8 to 15. is<br />

was the nal leg of ISSF World<br />

Cup competition and one of only<br />

three remaining opportunities<br />

for the <strong>USA</strong> to pick up its nal<br />

Men’s Double Trap and Men’s<br />

Trap quotas. With over 589<br />

competitors from 77 dierent<br />

federations, the competition was<br />

erce as Olympic quotas were on<br />

the line.<br />

Rachael Heiden (Clinton,<br />

Mich.) delivered an award<br />

winning performance in<br />

Women’s Trap. Heiden shot 72<br />

qualication targets to tie with<br />

four other athletes for three<br />

spots in the nal. <strong>Shooting</strong> four<br />

targets, Heiden and Slovakia’s<br />

Zuzana Stefecekova and France’s<br />

Delphine Racinet advanced to<br />

the nal. Heiden attacked the<br />

eld, hungry for the gold. With<br />

the highest nal of 23 targets,<br />

she surpassed the competition<br />

to secure the highest spot on<br />

the podium with 95 targets.<br />

Teammate Corey Cogdell (Eagle<br />

River, Alaska) shot 72 match<br />

targets to qualify for the shooto,<br />

but nished in eighth place<br />

with two shoot-o targets.<br />

In Men’s Double Trap<br />

Sta Sergeant Joshua Richmond<br />

(Hillsgrove, Pa.) climbed to<br />

fourth place overall in the Men’s<br />

Double Trap nal. Richmond<br />

nailed 145 match targets and 47<br />

out of 50 targets in the nal for<br />

<strong>19</strong>2 total targets. Adding to his<br />

point total for U.S. Olympic point<br />

selection, Richmond is well on<br />

his way to attending the 2012<br />

London Olympic Games.<br />

e Team nished with one<br />

gold medal and two appearances<br />

in the nals by Heiden and Sta<br />

Sergeant Richmond. Many of<br />

the American shotgun athletes<br />

that shot in Slovenia will also<br />

be returning to Europe to<br />

appear in the World Clay Target<br />

Championship in Belgrade,<br />

Serbia, from <strong>September</strong> 3 to 14.<br />

L: Rachael Heiden was on a mission to win gold and did so with 23 out<br />

of 25 targets in the nal. Heiden’s concentration in the Women’s Trap<br />

nal never waivered as she set out to achieve her goals.<br />
