ISSF World Cup Munich:<br />

Milev’s Magic Hour<br />

Rie and Pistol members of the <strong>USA</strong><br />

<strong>Shooting</strong> Team traveled to Munich,<br />

Germany, for the International<br />

<strong>Shooting</strong> Sport Federation (ISSF)<br />

World Cup Munich. e ISSF announced<br />

that this World Cup set records with 884<br />

registered athletes<br />

from 85 international<br />

federations. With a<br />

total of 1485 starts,<br />

ISSF Secretary General<br />

Franz Schreiber said,<br />

“It’s a record, no doubt<br />

about it. Never before,<br />

a Rie and Pistol World<br />

Cup Stage registered<br />

this participation.” e<br />

event took place on<br />

the prestigious <strong>19</strong>72<br />

Olympic <strong>Shooting</strong> Range<br />

from June 17 to 22. is<br />

was the last opportunity<br />

American athletes had<br />

to earn 2012 Olympic quotas from an ISSF<br />

World Cup.<br />

In the Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol<br />

event, the <strong>USA</strong>’s Emil Milev (Temple Terrace,<br />

Fla.) brought home the bronze medal. Not<br />

only did Milev earn a spot on the podium,<br />

but a very important second quota for the<br />

<strong>USA</strong>. is quota now allows two Men’s 25m<br />

Rapid Fire Pistol shooters to compete in<br />

the 2012 Olympic Games. Milev shot 583<br />

qualication points<br />

for an opportunity<br />

at the new nals<br />

format. With a solid<br />

start of 4, 5 and 3<br />

hits, Milev nished<br />

with 25 total hits for the bronze medal.<br />

National Pistol Coach Sergey Luzov said,<br />

“Milev wasn’t holding anything back—he<br />

was ready to attack, he approached the<br />

match today ready to win. He got distracted<br />

by the target malfunction in the nal, but<br />

he returned strong aer only 15 seconds of<br />

prep time. Now we have two great American<br />

rapid re shooters who have won quotas and<br />

are promising medal potential for the 2012<br />

Olympic Games.”<br />

place. Sanderson shot<br />

to tie Schumann and<br />

nearly two decades that the <strong>USA</strong> has won<br />

both Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol quotas, thus<br />

increasing our chances of medaling at the<br />

Olympic Games.<br />

Top ranked Jamie Beyerle (Lebanon,<br />

Pa.) nished in fourth place in Women’s<br />

50m Rie ree Position. Beyerle, who has<br />

already secured a 2012 Olympic nomination,<br />

shot 585 match points. <strong>Shooting</strong> 97.2 points<br />

in the nal, Beyerle nished with 682.2 total<br />

points.<br />

e <strong>USA</strong> <strong>Shooting</strong> Team le Munich<br />

with one medal and two appearances in<br />

the nals. Milev was the top performing<br />

American athlete. Teammate Beyerle just<br />

missed the podium, yet still added to her<br />

2012 U.S. Olympic point total. e People’s<br />

Republic of China was the most medalwinning<br />

federation with six total medals.<br />

Munich was the nal leg of ISSF Rie and<br />

Pistol World Cup competition for <strong>2011</strong>. e<br />

ISSF World Cup Finals (invite only) will be<br />

held from <strong>September</strong> 18 to 24 in Wroclaw,<br />

Poland.
