Heidelberg drew crowds for demonstrations of the Anicolor inking technology (no ink keys and it works with conventional plates and inks). INDUSTRIAL INKJET Aside from the colour posters on display at the numerous wide-format inkjet booths, the advancements in full-colour inkjet for industrial applications (label and packaging applications) were generating interest. Domino was featuring a prototype of a four-colour UV inkjet system. And Jetrion (a Flint Ink company) demonstrated its offline UV system, the 3025 SA, and announced the Jetrion 4040, a full-colour UV inkjet system targeting existing HP-Indigo and Xeikon solutions for the industrial market. Jetrion expects to be a very aggressive competitor featuring quality and low running cost. Xaar, industrial inkjet print head manufacturer featured an Imaging Technologies International (ITI) digital web press for flexible rolled substrates on its booth. And Agfa was demonstrating a modular version of its Dotrix system featurine inline flexo printing and converting. THE HEAVY IRON Heidelberg upped the speed of its four-up Speedmaster CD74 from 15,000 to 18,000 sph (catching up to MAN Roland’s 500). This speed enhanced press will come online by the fall. The company also attracted crowds to its first 10-colour Speedmaster 52, and to its demonstration of a four-colour Speedmaster 52 featuring its Anicolor keyless inking system, the company’s solution for the quick makeready short run market. Heidelberg was also showing a cold foil unit for its CD presses.
