Copeatekgen, Aug. 12.—It is announced

On the suggestion of a number of
representatives of industry, finance,
science and art in the German capital
a meeting was held at the ministry of
the interior for a provisional discussion
of how the interest which the United
States is displaying in the protection
of German nationals in the countries
of their enemies could be recompensed
by hospitality and solicitude for the
welfare of Americans who are quitting
Germany in an embarrassed condition
on account of tbe waT.
It was unanimously resolved upon
the motion of Mayor Termuth to hold !
a meeting at the town hall on Tues- I
day evening, when all Americans now I
in Berlin will be invited to be present, i
James W. Gerard, the American ambassador,
has promised to attend. |

The Essex County Fair may not
be the biggest fair but it has run 66
years without a break.
There is something in that, isn't
there ? Must be something to it.
Come and help keep it going. This
year with your help it will be better
than ever.
The stock depaitment will have
more and better entries. The chieken
coops will be full of good fowls. Grain,
vegetables and fruit will have a good
showing. Floral hall will be full ot
good stuff.
We have an excellent program of racing
with a good class of entries every day. The
Midway will be full of new and novel features,
and of course Dudley with his Goround
and Be-merry will be there.
Children under ten years of age free.
Everyone come to the fair and help make it
a good one. ••-
