Appendix D
DESCNDANTS OF BENJAMAN TETT AND JULYANNA POOLE
A PARTIAL LINEAGE
In the early 1800’s it was common for families in both England and Canada to have
lots of children. Frequently siblings from one family would marry siblings from another family.
This practice might continue through several generations, as was the case with the Chaffey,
the Poole, and the Tett families in Eastern Ontario, Canada during the years of colonial
settlement. Here are a few of the many examples found by this compiler:
Mary Ann Poole (1805-1888) married Samuel Chaffey (1793-1827) in 1822 in
Brockville, Ontario, Canada. Mary Ann had a younger sister named Julyanna Poole (1807-
1903) who married Benjamin Tett (1798-1878) in Ontario, Canada.
Julyanna (Poole) and Benjamin Tett had a daughter named Mary Ann Tett (1834-
1863) who married John Chaffey (1820-1878) in Newboro, Ontario, Canada. Mary Ann’s
father Benjamin Tett was a prominent land owner and businessman who partnered in the
lumbering and forwarding business with the Chaffeys. John Chaffey was the nephew of
Samuel Chaffey mentioned earlier.
Because of family linkeages such as these that spanned more than one generation,
present day descendants of these early settlers are sometimes related to each other by
more than one connection. This compiler has tried to show and explain these linkeages
whenever possible. Sometimes the explanation will be in the note section for a person or
sometimes it will be in an appendix such as this one.
A problem was discovered with the REUNION program software used by the
compiler that makes it necessary to include the DESCENDANTS OF BENJAMIN TETT
AND JULYANNA POOLE as an appendix. For a report, REUNION requires that one
person be named as the beginning family member for a lineage. Richard Chaffey (b. abt
1707-d.1795) was selected by the compiler as being the first proven Chaffey ancestor of
the line developed in this work. Benjamin Tett and Julyanna Poole were not directly
descended from Richard so they and many of their descendants, while entered into the data
base, do not appear when the document is printed. Since they are integral to the Chaffey
family, and since many of them are Chaffeys, they are included here as Appendix D.
Unavoidably, there is duplication with some of the main body of the text.
