6.3.2 Most important <strong>in</strong>come generat<strong>in</strong>g tree-based products and services <strong>in</strong> Misalai<br />

Accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> respondents, seven non-timber forest products that provide <strong>the</strong>m with <strong>the</strong> most <strong>in</strong>come<br />

<strong>in</strong>cluded Allanblackia, c<strong>in</strong>namon, cardamom, cloves, c<strong>of</strong>fee, oyster nuts and taro tubers. The plant products<br />

that earn <strong>the</strong> greatest <strong>in</strong>comes are listed <strong>in</strong> table 23. Respondents also mentioned bananas, beans and sugar<br />

cane as be<strong>in</strong>g important traded products.<br />

6.3.3 Tree-based products and services used by <strong>the</strong> local communities <strong>in</strong> Shambangeda<br />

In Shembangeda, <strong>the</strong> villagers stated that wild plant products that <strong>the</strong>y harvest with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir village <strong>land</strong>scape<br />

<strong>in</strong>clude: fuelwood, local medic<strong>in</strong>es, mushrooms, Allanblackia fruits, timber and poles (table 24). Accord<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

he respondents, <strong>the</strong>y ma<strong>in</strong>ly collected timber and poles from <strong>the</strong> agr<strong>of</strong>orest areas after seek<strong>in</strong>g a permit from<br />

<strong>the</strong> village government. Allanblackia, local medic<strong>in</strong>es, mushrooms and fuelwood are obta<strong>in</strong>ed with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> forests<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir areas <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> VFR as well as <strong>the</strong> agr<strong>of</strong>orest plots.<br />

The respondents <strong>in</strong> Shambangeda village mentioned medic<strong>in</strong>al plants and fuelwood to be <strong>the</strong> most important<br />

tree based products that <strong>the</strong>y are obta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>land</strong>scape. The third one was water <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g ra<strong>in</strong>s<br />

which <strong>the</strong>y l<strong>in</strong>ked with <strong>the</strong>ir efforts to conserve <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>land</strong>scapes well, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> forest. Allanblackia fruits,<br />

mushroom and timber were also mentioned to be important.<br />

6.3.4 Most important <strong>in</strong>come generat<strong>in</strong>g tree-based products and services <strong>in</strong> Shambangeda<br />

Timber, fuelwood, Allanblackia fruits, cardamon, c<strong>in</strong>namon, cloves, sugar cane and black pepper were<br />

mentioned as <strong>the</strong> tree–based products which are most traded <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> area. Most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> products are sold<br />
