Tanzania Forest Conservation Group<br />

The Tanzania Forest Conservation Group (TFCG) is a Tanzanian non-governmental organisation<br />

that has been promot<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> conservation <strong>of</strong> Tanzania‟s forests s<strong>in</strong>ce 1985. TFCG‟s mission is to<br />

conserve and restore <strong>the</strong> biodiversity <strong>of</strong> globally important forests <strong>in</strong> Tanzania for <strong>the</strong> benefit <strong>of</strong><br />

present and future generations. We achieve this through capacity build<strong>in</strong>g, advocacy, research,<br />

community development and protected area management, <strong>in</strong> ways that are susta<strong>in</strong>able and foster<br />

participation, cooperation and partnership.<br />

TFCG supports field based projects promot<strong>in</strong>g participatory forest management, environmental<br />

education, community development, advocacy and research <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Eastern Arc and Coastal<br />

Forests. TFCG also supports a community forest conservation network that facilitates l<strong>in</strong>kages<br />

TFCG is implement<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Integrat<strong>in</strong>g Livelihoods and Multiple Biodiversity Values <strong>in</strong> Landscape<br />

Mosaics project <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> East Usambara Mounta<strong>in</strong>s.<br />

The World Agr<strong>of</strong>orestry Centre (ICRAF)<br />

ICRAF is an <strong>in</strong>ternational agr<strong>of</strong>orestry centre with <strong>the</strong> vision <strong>of</strong> transform<strong>in</strong>g rural livelihoods <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

develop<strong>in</strong>g world by <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> trees <strong>in</strong> agricultural <strong>land</strong>scapes to improve food security,<br />

nutrition, <strong>in</strong>come, health, shelter, energy resources and environmental susta<strong>in</strong>ability.<br />

The mission <strong>of</strong> ICRAF is to generate science-based knowledge about <strong>the</strong> diverse roles that trees<br />

play <strong>in</strong> agricultural <strong>land</strong>scapes and to use its research to advance policies and practices that<br />

benefit <strong>the</strong> poor and <strong>the</strong> environment. ICRAF‟ s goal is to become a partner <strong>of</strong> choice for a range <strong>of</strong><br />

scientific and development <strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir efforts to generate tree-based solutions to <strong>the</strong> global<br />

problems <strong>of</strong> rural poverty, hunger and environmental degradation.<br />

ICRAF and <strong>the</strong> Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) jo<strong>in</strong>tly lead <strong>the</strong> Integrat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Livelihoods and Multiple Biodiversity Values <strong>in</strong> Landscape Mosaics project that operates <strong>in</strong> five<br />

sites across <strong>the</strong> world.<br />
