The solution enables Orange to precisely identify coverage areas within its CDMA network and deliver enhanced customer service. The CDMA network provides coverage to about 8 million people in and around Sydney and Melbourne. The service, Orange One, offers the combined features of mobile and local calls from one wireless handset. The application uses a combination of sophisticated mapping tools and geographic data to provide a visual representation of CDMA coverage by geographic region. “Our focus has always been on developing a reputable and reliable wireless service,” said Susan Buttsworth, director of IT and billing, Orange. “The spatial information system, provided by MapInfo and Logica, helps us to deliver a higher level of service to existing and prospective customers.” Orange uses MapInfo ® MapX ® , MapInfo ® StreetWorks ® Australia and MapInfo ® GeoLoc, which are integrated into the PeopleSoft customer contact application to provide LocalZone, a unique Orange One feature. Orange can customize a distinctive zone for each user, enabling the wireless handset to act like a home phone when used within a customer’s registered local area. Local calls are then billed at a local rate. Once the customer moves outside the LocalZone, calls are billed at mobile rates. With MapInfo technology, Orange pinpoints locations within its network and identifies its user base, customer by customer, allowing Orange to strategically offer its services as customers enter new sales areas.
