The aim of the system is to generate a reliable
forecast of the strain on the pipes and the jacking
forces that can be expected with the aid of the
collected data. This avoids not only damage to the
advancing pipes but cares also for saving costs, as
in the case of a favorable prognosis the use of
interjack stations can be reduced.
Process
The Gap Measurement System GMS is used to monitor selected gaps in a pipeline
during the advance process and can be integrated in the SLS-Microtunnelling
Navigation Systems.

Three position sensors, which are installed in the
pipe cross section, measure the opening at the
gap at the main and intermediate jacking stations,
the extensions and the pressures exerted are continuously
measured and recorded.

The GMS collects and stores all necessary values automatically and transfers
them to the data base where they are available for further documentation and
evaluation.

The data recorded by the GMS make it possible to
reconstruct the advance process of the pipeline
almost completely and provide an extremely comprehensive
basis for further calculations. Various interfaces
are available with external calculation modules
for continuous advance monitoring.
GMS can be used Stand-Alone or integrated in any
VMT Microtunnelling Navigation System.
