WACKER is a globally active company
that manufactures and sells chemical
products, and engages in intensive scientific
research. We are fully committed
to sustainable development, a principle
that is an integral part of our business
thinking and practices. We structure our
activities according to 8 Eco-Modules,
which cover subjects from manufacturing
efficiency to toxicity, which we will use as
indicators to create less of an overall
environmental footprint.
And when it comes to environmental
protection we believe prevention is
always better than cure which is why at
WACKER we focus more on prevention
than remedial measures. This process
begins as early as product development
and plant planning stages. It also means
that in accordance with the Responsible
Care ® initiative, measures often go
beyond what is legally required. We’re
continually working on reducing energy
consumption and conserving resources
and keep the public informed via our
annual community meetings at our
Nünchritz site and the Burghausen site’s
yearly environmental reports.

When we develop new products or
optimize existing products we are always
thinking about their environmental impact
now and in the future. Green building
is a topic that is on everyone’s lips
and we are constantly working on more
sustainable products. For example
VINNAPAS ® 828 ND – a well established
dispersion has been further developed
as it is now produced without the
addition of APEO, plasticizers and
solvents which helps our customers
to develop environmentally friendly
products.
And our commitment doesn't just
stop with our products – we recently
developed a PE bag for our polymer
powders that contains 40% less PE.
smaller FootPrint
Many of our products help to reduce the
carbon footprint along the life cycle of
construction products. By suppling
VINNAPAS ® polymer powders for exterior
insulation and finish systems (EIFS)
we help lower end-user heating costs,
while cutting greenhouse-gas emissions.
EIFS can reduce heating energy costs by
60% and cut the energy lost by
air-conditioners by as much as 72%.
We ourselves managed to reduce
the specific energy consumption in
Burghausen by ~40% in the past 10 years
and we will continue to pursue a target
of increasing energy efficiency by 5% in
all our factories worldwide.
