Primary care residency<br />
programs again were the<br />
favorite choices for the senior<br />
medical students at <strong>SIU</strong><strong>School</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong>.<br />
The graduating class <strong>of</strong><br />
2003 met for one <strong>of</strong> the last<br />
time on <strong>Match</strong> Day, March 20,<br />
where they learned where<br />
they would be spending their<br />
residencies, or post-graduate<br />
training. Other U.S. medical<br />
students learned <strong>of</strong> their<br />
matches that day, too.<br />
A whopping 42.2 percent<br />
<strong>of</strong> the <strong>SIU</strong> students will enter<br />
primary care residency<br />
programs in July.<br />
“<strong>Match</strong> day, like commencement,<br />
is a day for us to<br />
celebrate our successes,” said<br />
J. Kevin Dorsey, M.D., Ph.D.,<br />
dean and provost. “At <strong>SIU</strong>, we<br />
work to train excellent physicians,<br />
and residency program<br />
directors regularly tell us that<br />
we send them both competent<br />
and caring graduates.” ■<br />
