We are delighted to
welcome Mike Gaskell of
Morris Homes and his
guests to The Memorial
Ground for today’s match.
We are very grateful to
him for sponsoring the
game and hope that they
all enjoy their afternoon
with us.
Morris’s head office is in
Altrincham Road,
Wilmslow and a glance at
their web site shows that
they have on going
developments all over the
North West and Midlands
but not at present in
Wilmslow.
Martin Hill reports a strong representation by theU15s for Cheshire in
the forthcoming county matches; the first game is away against
Lancashire on Wed 16th March at Sefton RUFC,followed by matches
against Yorkshire at Bowdon on 10 th . April; North Wales at Wirral on
13 th . April; and Kent at a venue still to be arranged on 19 th ./20 th . April.
By the looks of things Wilmslow has the biggest representation of all
Cheshire clubs:
Those selected Tom Fairclough (wing); Jake Dickinson (centre); Sam
Lawton (No8/Prop); Rory Hill (Lock) and Dan Percival (Prop) in the
full Cheshire squad with Huw Smith (Scrum Half) and Mike Parker
(No8) making the A squad. Congratulations to all of them and the best
of luck.
The U13s and U15s braved the wind and rain at the Caldy junior tournament
last weekend. The U13s didn’t have one of their best days losing three
games against Crewe & Nantwich, Wirral and Sheffield Tigers and winning
only once against Ruthin. The U15s made the Plate final but they had
travelled with only sixteen players and by the time of the final, they were
down to playing the walking wounded and despite a final flourish ended up
on the losing side.
The U14s, the only survivors in this year’s Cheshire Cup competitions, kept
in practice by winning 31-20 at Leek. They were 14 points up after just five
minutes but Glyn Howell’s report suggested that they then took their feet off
the pedal and didn’t play as well as they could have done for the remainder
of the game. They’ll need to be sharper when it comes to their next round cup match.
Congratulations to Elliot Brierley, Tom Hall, Ollie Longmore and Lewis McKay on being selected for the
county’s U20 side last Sunday against Northumberland, which the Giles Heagerty coached team won by 39-20.
Elliot Brierley was amongst the scorers but none of the front row boys, I’m told, crossed the whitewash. In all
seven tries were scored.
A fortnight ago, the side demolished Durham by 87-3, scoring fifteen tries in the process.
Against Lancashire, they were unlucky to lose 20-15, despite having the better of the second half in terms of
possession and territory and only against the current holders Yorkshire were they decisively beaten by 18-0.
Dave Ewing’s report on the Cheshire web site indicates that, although Cheshire were short of several first
choice players that day., they defended stoutly without ever getting much of the rub of the green.
They still have one game against Cumbria to play next Sunday at New Brighton on 20th. March. Giles
Heagerty also believes that some of the Wilmslow boys have a good chance of progressing to the North of
England squad.
