angel scholars National Merit Scholars Mother Caroline Scholars 4 The students pictured at left were named as Commended Students in the 2009 National Merit® Scholarship Program. Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2009 competition. National Merit Commended Students: Alyssa Antropow Margaret Gleason Brielle Kilmartin Angela Kim Emma Meyers Amanda Morejon National Hispanic Recognition* Scholar Amanda Morejon *Amanda was one of 5,000 high school students selected from a pool of over 200,000. This scholarship is named in honor of Mother Caroline Friess, SSND, who led the School Sisters of Notre Dame to the united States in 1847. This four-year full or partial scholarship is for students entering 9th grade who have demonstrated excellence on the Cooperative Admissions Examination. Invitations are sent in early January for the scholarship exam. Students who are awarded the scholarship must maintain a yearly average of 90% in order to renew this scholarship for the following year. Sister Mary Nonna Dunphy Scholarship Each year, six scholarships are awarded to current students, in memory of the foundress of the Academy. These partial scholarships are based on academic excellence, leadership, character, service, an interview with the scholarship committee and an essay. “We are all called to both seek and spread peace to all. in order for change to be seen, and for justice and peace to be carried out into the world, we must first look to ourselves. it is only when we, ourselves, make a difference, that the beginning of a new world can be seen.” – Sherin Pathickal ’10 Margaret E. Klett Literary Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1999 by Mr. and Mrs. Donald Pakosh (Kathleen Klett Garrett ’68) in memory of her mother, Margaret E. Klett. It is awarded annually in october on the Feast of the Guardian Angels. our recipient this year is Brielle Kilmartin ’09 (pictured at right with Principal Jennifer Moran and President S.
