The Southern Historical Collection (SHC) in the Wilson
Special Collections Library holds over 900 archival
collections containing correspondence, photographs,
audio recordings, and other materials related to various
aspects of African American history. Through the
Documenting the African American Southern
Experience Initiative, established in Fall 2009, the SHC
expands its commitment to chronicling African
American life in the South through exhibits, public
programs, community outreach, and acquisition of
new collections.
As the institutional memory of the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University Archives is
interested in acquiring the records of campus
organizations, including student groups, that document
the life and activities of of African-American faculty,
staff, and students.
