2.2.2 Texas Instrument (Chipcon)<br />

Chipcon is one of the most popular SoC <strong>ZigBee</strong> devices in the market. Texas<br />

Instrument (TI) is the first manufacturer to combine the 8051 microcontroller<br />

architecture with the Chipcon <strong>ZigBee</strong> transceiver. This revolution made the<br />

TI wireless device the most popular among wireless system designers.<br />

Chipcon devices provide reasonable RF range and power consumption<br />

per<strong>for</strong>mance. The main advantage of TI devices is they provide a full featured<br />

<strong>ZigBee</strong> and IEEE 802.15.4 MAC software layer, with most of the source code.<br />

This is very attractive <strong>for</strong> software development and research applications.<br />

2.2.3 Meshnetics<br />

Meshnetics has several <strong>ZigBee</strong> products in the market. All these devices are<br />

Atmel hardware based modules. The main advantage of the Meshnetics is<br />

they provide a more complete <strong>ZigBee</strong> stack compared to the Atmel stack.<br />

Moreover the Meshnetics <strong>ZigBee</strong> stack comes with a real time operating<br />

system (RTOS) to reduce the software development time and the complexity<br />

of introducing user defined application layer tasks. The main disadvantage of<br />
