a. Waste should be collected daily (or as frequently as required) and transported to the<br />
designated central storage site or waste transfer station.<br />
b. <strong>No</strong> bags should be removed unless they are labeled with their point of production<br />
(hospital ward or department) and contents.<br />
c. The bags or containers should be replaced immediately with new ones of the same<br />
type.<br />
d. A supply of fresh collection bags or containers should be readily available at all<br />
locations where waste is produced.<br />
e. Collection practice for active solid radioactive waste shall consist of distributing orange<br />
color-coded suitable containers with the radiation symbol colored magenta or black.<br />
The collection of active solid radioactive waste from designated storage area can only<br />
be made when the activity (delay-to-decay) decays to a safe level and upon the strict<br />
supervision and guidance of the radiological health and safety officer.<br />
f. Handling, collection, transport and disposal of these materials shall be based on the<br />
guidelines issued by PNRI.<br />
g. The Treatment Facility Waste collection will then collect such waste for the<br />
establishment storage facility.<br />
SECTION 17. On-site Transport. Transportation of waste within the<br />
establishment could utilize wheeled trolleys, containers, or Carts that are dedicated solely<br />
for the purpose.<br />
17.1. Vehicle Specifications. On-site transportation vehicle should meet the<br />
following specifications:<br />
i. Easy to load and unload<br />
ii. <strong>No</strong> sharp edges that could damage waste bags or containers during loading<br />
and unloading<br />
ifi. Easy to clean<br />
17.2. Vehicle Maintenance. The on-site collection vehicles should be cleaned<br />
and disinfected daily with an appropriate disinfectant like chlorine<br />
compounds, formaldehyde, phenolic compounds and acids. All waste bag<br />
seals should be in-place and intact at the end of transportation.
