• Section 5-Miscellaneous facilities<br />

This section contains various character sets, macro packages, and<br />

other miscellaneous formats. There are two special categories in<br />

this section. Where applicable, these categories are indicated by<br />

the letter designation that follows the section number. For example,<br />

the P in tcp(1P) indicates a protocol as described following.<br />

by the letter designation in parenthesis at the top of the<br />

AIUX System Administrator's <strong>Reference</strong> contains sections 1M, 7 and 8.<br />

• Section IM-System Maintenance Commands<br />

This section contains system maintenance programs such as<br />

fsck and mkfs.<br />

• Section 7-Drivers and Interfaces for Devices<br />

This section discusses the drivers and interfaces through which<br />

devices are normally accessed. While access to one or more disk<br />

devices is fairly transparent when you are working with files, the<br />

provision of device files permits you more explicit modes with<br />

which to access particular disks or disk partitions, as well as<br />

other types of devices such as tape drives and modems. For<br />

example, a tape device may be accessed in automatic-rewind<br />

mode through one or more of the device file names in the<br />

/ dev / rmt directory (see tc(7». The FILES sections of these<br />

manual pages identify all the device files supplied with the system<br />

as well as those that are automatically generated by certain<br />

A/UX configuration utilities. The names of the man pages generally<br />

refer to device names or device driver names, rather than<br />

the names of the device files themselves.<br />

• Section 8-A/UX Startup Shell Commands<br />

This section describes the commands that are available from<br />

within the A/UX Startup Shell, including detailed descriptions of<br />
